The Cardinal Eco-Tour River Boat

Writers One-Day Retreat

     Enjoy a reflective day exploring area waters with other writers in the area on our 49-passenger river boat, the Cardinal. Capture atmosphere, local color and mood for your travel articles, personal essays...or your novel. All levels of writers are invited to this innovative workshop--you do not have to be published.
 
 

     Your guide for this innovative writing adventure is Dr. Richard Bothel at Lamar University. Dr. Bothel is a published outdoor writer with articles appearing in Game and Fish magazines including Texas Sportsman, and Fin, Fur & Feather and other national publications such as the Farmers Almanac.     
     His academic articles have appeared in The Journal of Distance Learning Administration, Planning for Higher Education, T.H.E. Journal: Technological Horizons in Education, Ed Journal, The Education Digest, The Community College Journal, Adult Learning, Community Education Journal, and Teaching Today.

Ten Mile Creek (Bayou), Neches River
Traveling up 10-Mile Creek off the Neches River

     Your day will begin with a leisurely cruise on the Neches River exploring some of the natural wonders of Southeast Texas. Writing exercises will pull from your creative side whether you be a fiction or nonfiction writer. Lunch will be on one of the quiet backwater areas of the river where you will experience the solitude of our wilderness just outside of Beaumont, Texas. The day will close with the sharing of some of your new thoughts of the day.
    Get to know other writers in the area with similar interests. Explore the possibilities of new critique groups for future interactions.
